Better get into it!

Well I have been very slack since agreeing to blog for the MDC! I am in my final semester of uni so i'm really busy, but the good news is my team and I have raised just under $2000!

If you would like to sponsor us, the link is http://eventarc.com/sponsor/view/46/meaka-shordon - Or just go to the MDC site and search for Meaka Shordon. Meaka is heading up our team this year. We went to high school together but were never really friends, just acquaintances. After I was diagnosed I lost many "close friends" but Meaka reached out (on facebook of course) and we have been close ever since. She came on the walk with me last year, to the Global Illumination Masquerade Ball in October, and is now tirelessly fundraising for the MDC as well as working 3 jobs!

So thankyou Meaka, you are such a beautiful person, and we are so alike- like kindred spirits (or something :P).

And if you want to read my story go to http://www.nowwhat.org.au/stories/view/finding-my-new-normal ALSO i'm going to be in the paper this weekend (24th april) so grab a copy of the Courier Mail (QLD), get out the QWeekend section and go to the Ordinary People story. I'm the ordinary person! There is also an accompanying (is that a word?) website to go with the story so i'll post the link when it's up.

ALSO! If you want to follow our team's progress with the MDC, join our Facebook page. Search for "Fighting for Fighters".

I promise I will try to be less slack re posting! xoxo

Welcome!

Hi all and welcome to my first blog! Unfortunately I open with some sad news. My good friend and neighbour Astrid lost her battle with breast cancer last night aged 45. She was originally diagnosed at 39, and a month after I was diagnosed in 2008, it was discovered she had widespread metastases.

We compared mastectomy scars and prostheses, went bandanna shopping, and had chemo together for six months. She was the only other person I knew with breast cancer- we were like partners in crime. She leaves behind a loving husband and two teenaged sons.

It is Astrid and her family to whom I dedicate my 2010 MDC walk.

I will do my best to make my subsequent blogs light and fun, and I look forward to hearing from any women who would like to contact me :)
